Standalone Evaluations in SimCapture for Skills are a flexible assessment tool that can be used independently of live or recorded sessions. When paired with Self‑Record scenarios, they give instructors powerful ways to assess knowledge, documentation skills, and gather meaningful student feedback—without requiring video review.

What Is a Standalone Evaluation?

A Standalone Evaluation is an assessment that learners can complete without being tied to a specific recording or live simulation session.

Standalone Evaluations are ideal for:

  • Knowledge-based assessments
  • Documentation and clinical reasoning practice
  • Surveys and learner feedback

They allow instructors to evaluate learning outcomes even when a video or facilitated session is not required.

When to Use Standalone Evaluations

1. Knowledge Checks for Skills and Equipment

Use Standalone Evaluations to assess a learner’s understanding of:

  • Core concepts related to a clinical skill
  • Proper use of simulation equipment
  • Critical safety or performance checkpoints

By creating targeted questions, instructors can measure theoretical knowledge and readiness before or after hands-on practice. This helps identify gaps that may require additional instruction or remediation.

2. SOAP Note Practice and Documentation Skills

After completing a Self‑Record scenario, learners can use a Standalone Evaluation to practice clinical documentation, such as SOAP notes (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan).

Standalone Evaluations support documentation practice by allowing instructors to:

  • Apply a custom grading rubric
  • Emphasize clarity, accuracy, and completeness
  • Provide structured, rubric‑based feedback

This approach helps students strengthen clinical reasoning and writing skills without requiring video assessment.

3. Student Feedback and Surveys

Standalone Evaluations can also be used to collect structured feedback from learners on:

  • Simulation equipment condition and usability
  • Realism and effectiveness of role‑playing scenarios
  • Overall learning environment and experience

This feedback helps instructors and administrators continuously improve simulation activities and address issues early.
