SimCapture’s Session Transcription service allows you to generate high‑quality, time‑stamped transcripts from session recordings, giving System Admins full control over how transcripts are produced across sessions by supporting both single‑language and multi‑language transcription options in Samaritan settings.
These flexible language configuration tools make it easy to ensure accurate transcription in a wide range of teaching environments—from monolingual classrooms to highly multilingual simulation centers—while enabling admins to choose the right mode for their needs and understand how the system behaves based on their selections. With the right setup, your transcripts will be more accurate, more reliable, and better aligned with your training goals.
Before You Begin
To use Session Transcription, make sure:
- The Session video transcription feature is part of the broader Samaritan feature set.
- A System Admin has enabled Session video transcription in System Setup > Samaritan > Transcription.
- A recording must contain audio for transcription to work, as sessions without audio cannot be transcribed, and higher audio quality results in better transcription accuracy.
- Your SimCapture environment uses supported languages from the Transcription Language Support matrix.
- To use single‑language mode when only one language is needed.
- To avoid selecting languages that will never be used—unnecessary matches may reduce accuracy.
Accessing Transcription Settings
Only System Admins can configure transcription behavior at the system level.

- Log in as a System Admin.
- Navigate to System Setup > Samaritan.
- Select Configure next to Session video transcription.
This takes you to the transcription configuration page where all language options are defined.
Enabling Session Video Transcription
At the top of the configuration page:

- Toggle Session video transcription On. This must be enabled before any language options become available.
- When enabled, additional settings appear:
- Transcribe in a single language (dropdown)
- Transcribe in multiple languages (toggle + selection fields)
These options let you match transcription behavior to your simulation needs.
Primary Transcription Language (Single Language Selection)
The Primary transcription language defines the base language used for transcript generation in every session.
Key Points
- Users may select from a broad set of supported languages.
- All listed languages support single language transcription.
- The primary transcription language is always required, even when multilanguage transcription is enabled.
- Selecting a primary language allows organizations to explicitly control transcription behavior and meet diverse global workflow needs.
This mode is ideal for sessions where participants speak a consistent language and where accuracy in a single language is the priority.
How to Configure Single-Language Transcription
- With Session video transcription turned ON, locate the setting: Transcribe in a single language.
- Open the dropdown and select one language from the supported single‑language list.
- Save your settings.
In single‑language mode, the dropdown remains visible but is disabled whenever Session Video Transcription is turned off, while still retaining the previously selected language so your configuration is not lost; only one language can be chosen in this mode, and it operates independently from the multi‑language transcription option.
Additional Languages (Multi-Language Selection)
SimCapture can detect and transcribe multiple languages within the same session when the selected primary language supports this capability.
Key Points
- Multilanguage transcription is available only for supported primary languages.
- When a compatible primary language is chosen, users may enable multilanguage transcription and select additional languages from a supported subset.
- If the selected primary language does not support multilanguage transcription, the option is automatically disabled in the UI to prevent unsupported configurations.
This behavior ensures system reliability and avoids silent transcription failures caused by incompatible language combinations.
Example Behavior
Primary Language: Norwegian
- Supports single language transcription only.
- Multi-language transcription is disabled.
- Additional language options do not appear.
Primary Language: English
- Supports multi-language transcription
- Additional supported languages can be selected and automatically detected during the session
How to Configure Multi-Language Transcription
- Ensure Session video transcription is turned ON.
- Toggle Additional languages to ON.
- A language selection dropdown will appear.
- Select one language, then additional dropdowns appear for adding more.
- Add up to five additional languages.(One primary language and 4 additional languages)
- Save your settings.
Multi‑language mode supports a smaller set of languages than single‑language mode due to AWS limitations, and the Save button remains disabled until at least one language is selected; if Session Video Transcription is turned off, all selected languages are preserved but remain disabled until transcription is re‑enabled.
Choosing Between Single-Language and Multi-Language Modes
You can configure the system in either mode:
Single-Language Mode
- Best for monolingual sessions.
- Supports the widest range of languages.
- Offers the highest accuracy when the spoken language is known ahead of time.
Multi-Language Mode
- Best for multilingual environments.
- Allows automatic detection of multiple defined languages.
- Limited to the supported multi-languages shown here.
Both modes can coexist in the UI, but SimCapture’s logic will clearly indicate which one is active at runtime.
Viewing Transcription Settings
After configuration:

- Go to System Setup > Samaritan > Transcription.
- You will see the configured single-language or multi-language settings displayed for reference.
This ensures transparency for all administrative users.
