Standardized Patients (SPs) use SimCapture to participate in virtual OSCE encounters. Follow the steps below to join and complete your session.
Access the Remote OSCE
- Log in to SimCapture
- Go to My Courses
- Select Remote Exam: Patient
You’ll be taken to the Virtual Waiting Room .
Set Up Camera & Microphone
Before entering the room:
- Select your camera and microphone
- Preview your video and audio
- Confirm everything is working properly
Enter the Virtual Room
If early entry is enabled, you can join anytime.
You may see status messages such as:
- Waiting for Student to log in
- Waiting for Student to enter
What’s happening:
- The learner may be reviewing the Honor Code or Door Note
- The Proctor has not yet started the encounter
During the Encounter
Once the session begins, you’ll see:
- Virtual room name and your role (Patient)
- Countdown timer
- Learner’s video feed
- Your video/audio preview
Your role:
- Remain on camera and in character
- Wait for the learner to guide the interaction
Only the learner can end the encounter. SPs do not have a Stop button.
After the Encounter
- You’ll return to the Virtual Waiting Room
- If more sessions are scheduled, re-enter when prompted
Quick Troubleshooting
- No video or audio? Recheck your device selection in the Waiting Room
- Can’t enter the room? Confirm the Proctor has started the session
- Still stuck? Contact your Proctor or Laerdal Support
