Standardized Patients (SPs) use SimCapture to participate in virtual OSCE encounters. Follow the steps below to join and complete your session.

Access the Remote OSCE

Log in to SimCapture
Go to My Courses
Select Remote Exam: Patient

You’ll be taken to the Virtual Waiting Room .

Set Up Camera & Microphone

Before entering the room:

Select your camera and microphone
Preview your video and audio
Confirm everything is working properly

Enter the Virtual Room

If early entry is enabled, you can join anytime.

You may see status messages such as:

Waiting for Student to log in
Waiting for Student to enter

What’s happening:

The learner may be reviewing the Honor Code or Door Note
The Proctor has not yet started the encounter

During the Encounter

Once the session begins, you’ll see:

Virtual room name and your role (Patient)
Countdown timer
Learner’s video feed
Your video/audio preview

Your role:

Remain on camera and in character
Wait for the learner to guide the interaction

Only the learner can end the encounter. SPs do not have a Stop button.

After the Encounter

You’ll return to the Virtual Waiting Room
If more sessions are scheduled, re-enter when prompted

Quick Troubleshooting

No video or audio? Recheck your device selection in the Waiting Room
Can’t enter the room? Confirm the Proctor has started the session
Still stuck? Contact your Proctor or Laerdal Support
