Things to know before you begin

The SP Chat feature is available in your organization. It allows Standardized Patients (SPs) to communicate directly with the Control Room or Proctor during exams—especially useful when verbal communication isn’t possible.

Before you begin, here are a few key things to know:

  • The Chat icon in the Control interface will be grayed out until a room is selected.
  • Once a room is configured, the icon turns blue, indicating chat is active.
  • SP Chat is designed to support smooth, discreet communication during live exams.

How it works – Control interface

To enable and use SP Chat from the Control interface:

  1. Log in to your organization.
  2. Click Control in the global navigation bar.
  3. Select a room to configure. The chat icon will turn blue.
  4. Click the blue Chat icon to display the chat bar at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click the chat bar to open the chat window.
    1. Alternatively, use the kebab menu (three dots) next to the room to open chat directly.
  6. Type your message to the Proctor and press Enter to send.

Note: Clicking the X will close the chat window, but the conversation will be saved.

How It Works - SP Interface

When the SP logs in, the chat interface looks different but functions similarly:

  1. Click Chat with Admin.
  2. Type your message in the chat window.
  3. Press Enter to send.

Messages from SPs will appear in the corresponding room’s chat window on the Control interface. If the chat is minimized, a red circle will show the number of unread messages.

FAQs

Q. Can I have more than one chat open at the same time?

A. Yes! Select multiple configured rooms, click the chat icon, and multiple chat bars will appear. Click the bar for the room you want to chat in.

  • Note: Chat windows open in the same order as room selection.

Q. Can I use the kebab menu to open chat windows?

A. Absolutely. Select your room, click the kebab menu, and choose Chat to open the window directly.

Q. Help! My chat bars disappeared!

A. No worries. If you click the small horizontal line above your chat bars, they’ll minimize. A blue and white chat icon will appear. Click the horizontal line again to restore your chat.

  • Note: Unsaved text will be lost if you minimize the chat window before sending.

Q. How can I send multiple lines of text?

A. Use Shift+Enter to start a new line within the same message.
